1000 word self-assessment
For this 1000 word self assessment I will be looking at the constraints that I encountered, if I managed my time well, how I used the resources I had available to me and I will talk about the feedback that I collected from the people in class in more detail. I will then come up with the conclusion involving what went well, and even better if.
Constraints
In this section I will look at the constraints of the advert that I came across.
The constraints that I came across in my advert were that I had to make sure that I get all the filming in, making sure that the advert was 30 seconds long and no shorter or longer. I did this by showing the important parts of the advert such as making the sandwich, coming face to face with the mayonnaise and showing the pack shot at the end. I also had to make sure that I show real food that people eat everyday, I did this by showing a person who works in an office, making a sandwich in a kitchen in a room, which has table and chairs. I also had to make the advert fun because in the brief it says that mayonnaise should be involved in people social events, I didn’t this by using a cowboy theme. I had to show a happy atmosphere, I did this by using a funny soundtrack which makes you laugh as the soundtrack and video works together. I also had the actress to look serious which also creates the mood. I also had to show the click on the mayonnaise bottle, this was a vital part of the advert without it then I did not meet the brief. To be able to show the click I had the actress to pick up the mayonnaise from being upside down and had her to shut the click and turn the bottle around to the mayonnaise the correct way.
Time
In this section I will look at managing time.
For my advert I had to manage my time well, by managing my time well I got produce the advert and do all the work in advance to make sure I get all the work done. I did this by keeping a plan at home to insure that I knew what was needed to be done. I also kept updating my blog to know what I have done and what is next in finishing my advert. I also keep in contact with the actress on Facebook to make sure that she knew what she needed to do in the advert, to wear and understand the brief.
Resources
In this section I will look at the resources I had for my advert.
My resources that I had for my advert been the camera, tripod, actress, Hellmann’s mayonnaise, tape, sandwich. I used my resources well because I made sure that I had all of these before I made by advert. I made the sandwich in my house the day before the advert and I made sure that all the equipment was ready and that I came in and prepared the set before filming was to begin. I also bought the mayonnaise in advance so I wouldn’t be left without the product, and then filming would have had to be delayed. Also another resource is the Internet and I made sure that I was in contact with the actress through the Internet via Facebook.
Feedback
I collected information from the people in my class; I did this to see if the advert was good and if anything else could have been done to make the advert better. From the feedback that I collected I found out that everyone liked the advert, that they didn’t find the advert boring and that they thought that some found some faults, which is good feedback. The feedback that I got back was that a could of put the actress in a cowboy outfit, I decided not to put her in a outfit because she was based in a office and her office look would match what I was trying to sell. I was also said that I could out the voiceover in a bit earlier as the sandwich is there for a couple of seconds. The other feedback that was given was to make some of the cuts quicker and fast. I agree with the fast cuts and the voiceover and if I were to do this advert again this is what I would change.
Conclusion
In my conclusion I will talk about what I thought of the advert, what went well and even better if?
In conclusion I feel that my advert meets the target audience and the brief, I feel that I have managed my time well and that I included what was needed in the advert.
What went well?
I feel that the parts of the advert that went well were that I hit the brief; my idea had humor in it, which is what I wanted. I feel that I managed my time best because I was prepared before filming and knew exactly what I wanted to film, getting shots, which I did need.
Even better if?
If I were to do this again I would change what I was given in feedback from the people in class, for example I would change the pace of the editing and film and cutting in the voiceover a bit quicker to keep the viewer entertained in what they are seeing. Also I would change the setting for the advert because the room isn’t as bright on camera that I wanted it to be, I think I should of shot in a white room to see everything more clearly. I would also change my idea slightly by maybe having the actress or actor to be coming from a job backstage to making a sandwich and using the cowboy theme. I think that it would work well than how the advert turned out to be like.
